Check which product rules apply in each market you sell in

Pick what you sell and where. You'll see what blocks a sale, what to do before you sell, and the sentence in the law behind each rule. Anything we don't check reads Not covered or Partly checked, never a pass.

Result

One verdict for each market you sell in

ClaraDB holds 17,940 rules from 295 sources in 21 markets, across home and kitchen, cosmetics, food, electronics and batteries. Choose a product and the markets where you sell it, and the check returns one verdict per market, then every rule behind it.

Each rule shows the sentence from the law it comes from, a link to the source, the date we last checked that source and, when the rule has one, the date it takes effect. A result also lists what to do before you sell: a registration, test, label or notification. The six verdicts mean:

  • BlockedThe product, as described, breaks a rule there, such as a banned substance or a limit it goes over. It can't be sold there until that's fixed.
  • Action neededIt can be sold once you do the tasks listed: a registration, test, label or notification.
  • Needs answersA law may apply, and a fact you didn't give us decides it. We name the fact we need. There's no quote yet, because no rule is settled.
  • Partly checkedNo rule we check blocks it, but a law or product area that covers it there isn't checked yet, or we cover only part of the market. The result lists what we don't check.
  • ClearNo rule we check applies on the date shown, and nothing that covers it is left unchecked. That doesn't mean the product is compliant.
  • Not coveredWe have no rules for this industry in that market yet. That's a gap, never a pass, and there's no quote.

Steps

Three steps, no account

The form above is step 1 of 2; the result is step 2.

  • Name the product your way, such as sunscreen, sofa or air fryer, or pick a category. The search maps it to the closest category we check. If nothing close is covered, it says so instead of swapping in something else.
  • Pick one or more markets. A market where ClaraDB has no rules for that industry is marked not covered and reported, not guessed.
  • Optionally paste the ingredient list from the pack or formula sheet. We check any ingredient that is on a list we track. Where a rule depends on a fact you did not give, the result names the fact instead of assuming it.

Limits

What the check will not tell you

  • It is information taken from the law, not legal advice. A Clear verdict does not mean the product is compliant; it means no rule we check applies on the date shown and nothing that covers the product is left unchecked.
  • The rules are written by AI from the law and have not been reviewed by a lawyer or regulatory expert. Every quote is tested to match our saved copy of the law exactly.
  • We never guess facts from a product's name. If a rule turns on a fact, such as the materials or the size of your business, the result asks for it.
  • Rules are current as of a date. A law can change after we last checked it, so look at each source's last-checked date.
  • Partly checked and Not covered are gaps, never a pass, and they show no quote because there is no rule text behind them.

How a rule gets in and how we test it is on the methodology page. When we last checked each source is on the status page. Found a wrong rule, date or quote? Use the corrections page.

Questions

Before you run a check

Is the check free?

Yes. Running a check is free and needs no account. A free workspace keeps 10 products and shows their rule changes in the app; Team and Business add the daily email alert, more products, more people and API calls; every price is on the pricing page.

Which markets can I check?

Every market that has rules in ClaraDB; the markets page lists them with the date coverage starts and the sources. A market we do not check reads Not covered.

Can I send someone a result?

A result is held in its link: the product, the markets and the answers are in the address. Send the link and the other person sees the same check, run against the law in force on the day they open it unless the link sets a date.

What if I only want to read the law for one substance or product type?

Browse the substances and categories directories. Each page lists the rules by market with the law behind each one.
