Coverage

What we check here for each industry, and from when. Open an industry to see what we cover and what we don't. A law we hold but haven't checked shows as Not checked, with its quote. Anything we don't cover shows as Not covered. Neither is ever clear.

ClaraDB gives a verdict only for PFAS state laws for cookware and bakeware, California Proposition 65 consumer-product warning check for BPA, BPS, formaldehyde, styrene, antimony trioxide, vinyl acetate, lead and cadmium, California Proposition 65 warning check for candles and ceramicware (lead, cadmium, formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, benzene, naphthalene, carbon monoxide, benzo[a]pyrene), US packaging EPR producer size thresholds (California, Colorado, Maryland, Minnesota, Oregon, Washington) for a brand-owning manufacturer, US lead in children's products and furniture (lead paint and total lead content), US lead in toys and child care articles (lead paint and total lead content), US lead in children's products (other) and bags (lead paint and total lead content), US phthalates in children's toys and child care articles (DEHP, DBP, BBP, DINP, DIBP, DPENP, DHEXP, DCHP) and US children's product certificate and tracking label for children's tableware (AI-checked, quotes verified word for word). Every other answer shows the laws and quotes found without saying whether they apply. Not checked: Consumer electronics (FCC equipment authorization, 47 CFR Parts 2 and 15, energy rules). Registration

Certify each basic model's built-in battery charger to DOE before it is distributed, then every year

Registration required

DOE certification report: before distributing in commerce a basic model of battery charger subject to the 10 CFR 430.32(z) standard, and every year after by September 1, the manufacturer submits a certification report to DOE that each basic model meets the standard (429.12(a), (d)). For a battery charger the report gives the product type and class, manufacturer, brand and model numbers, the test battery's nameplate voltage, charge capacity and energy, the represented values (maintenance, standby and off mode power, battery discharge energy, 24-hour energy, duration of the charge and maintenance mode test, unit energy consumption), and the make and model of the test battery and of any external power supply (429.39(b))

Consolidated text (not the authentic legal edition), current to 23 Oct 2026. eCFR is an editorial compilation of the CFR, not the official legal edition; title 10 current to 2026-10-23 per the eCFR versioner.

  • Contains a battery
  • Rechargeable
  • It charges its own built-in rechargeable battery (10 CFR 430.2: a battery charger includes "battery chargers embedded in other consumer products"), and you manufacture or import the product (10 CFR 430.2, applied by 429.2(a): "Manufacture means to manufacture, produce, assemble, or import"; 429.12(a): "Each manufacturer")

Depends on: contains battery, rechargeable

In force since 13 Jun 2018

Applies to products distributed on or after 13 Jun 2018

Certification is due before a basic model subject to an applicable standard is distributed in commerce (429.12(a)); the battery charger standard applies to chargers manufactured on or after June 13, 2018 (430.32(z)(1)).

“Each manufacturer, before distributing in commerce any basic model of a covered product or covered equipment subject to an applicable energy conservation standard set forth in parts 430 or 431, and annually thereafter on or before the dates provided in paragraph (d) of this section, shall submit a certification report to DOE certifying that each basic model meets the applicable energy conservation standard(s).”
