- Portable batteries
Sealed batteries of 5 kg or less that are not industrial, LMT, electric-vehicle or SLI batteries (EU 2023/1542 Art. 3(9)).
- AA, AAA, C, D and 9 V batteries
General-use batteries in the cylindrical and block formats (4.5 V 3R12, D, C, AA, AAA, AAAA, A23 and 9 V PP3), alkaline, zinc-carbon or rechargeable. The category a seller picks for everyday batteries; button and coin cells have their own category beside it.
- Button and coin cells
Button, coin and lithium coin cells (CR2032, CR2025, LR44, SR626 and similar), sold on their own. A coin cell is a button or coin battery by definition (16 CFR 1263.2: a single cell battery with a diameter greater than its height), so the button-cell laws apply without a question; every law for general-use portable batteries reaches it too.
- Replacement and standalone rechargeable battery packs
Sealed rechargeable packs sold on their own for laptops, phones, cordless power tools, cameras and similar devices, and cell-based packs not in a general-use format (EU 2023/1542 Art. 3(9) portable battery; Art. 11 removability and replaceability; KR 안전확인 리튬이차전지; JP PSE リチウムイオン蓄電池).
